Question How far has been your longest walk?

Dudes,
Today I walked for 8 hours over hill and into dale (the trail wasn't dusty though, and no caissons neither) through thickets and oaken forests (with plenty o' poison oak, too) for a plant identification class I'm taking at the University of California Extension at Riverside. I am soo goddamned sunburned that I'm sick. Having walked a full six hours yesterday in the sun wasn't good either, albeit the trail was flatter.

The farthest I ever travelled by shank's mare was years ago in Northern California. I was ditched by an enemy, he fancied my girlfriend. I was 22, and I then had to walk thirty-five miles to the original destination. It took me 18 hours of solid walking from 4:00pm to 10:00am the following day. Wow, were those mofos' surprised when I showed up and kicked that son o' bitch's ass!

Strangely, today's hike seemed hella more onerous. Of course, then it was 1978, and I was only 23...
How far have YOU ever walked at a single go, and for what reasons?

I go to Ohio State which means you walk everywhere your freshman year due to your lack of petroleum-fueled transportation and an unreliable public transportation system, so I've been on some fairly long treks myself. No idea how many miles, couple hours each time.

Thankful to have a car this year.

I've run a couple marathons so walking has never been too much of an issue for me. A couple of employees gave me a pedometer when I was floor walking for shoplifting at Target. I came up in the high teens a couple times during 8 hour shifts. I don't quiet think that thing was 100% accurate, I would shave 3 or 4 miles off that. The furthest I've hiked was 11 miles on South Mountain here in Phoenix.

10 miles was the longest for me... but that was also with a flack jacket, kevlar helmet, and a full 70 lb pack... not to mention lots of hills in between heh.

Furthest that I remember walking was from Catalina Harbor to Avalon on Catalina Island in California...and back. That shows as about 28 miles total, round trip.

I was more of a cyclist though and rode everywhere on bike when I was younger.

20+ mile ruck marches while training at Ft Dix. I was a M60 gunner, so it did suck a little more for me. =P

As a kid we used to do a 20 mile hike a couple times a year. Some was on state park trails and the rest on roads. The best part was exploring old abandoned farm houses. My dad found a newspaper in the attic of one with Bonnie and Clyde being gunned down on the front page
