I don't agree with Critical Mass' message, but this is definately the wrong way to counter that message.

Found this article - http://www.nytimes.com/2011/03/03/wo...er=rss&emc=rss

Apparently he has told people he was waiting for the bike riders to pass him by, and they were riding by and scratching up his car.

If that happened to my Camaro, I don't think I'd do what he did. At least, I hope not.

It's a bicycling event that idiot bikers do in some cities like San Francisco, where they take to the streets and essentially block traffic intentionally without a permit to promote the superiority of biking.

As I pointed out in my previous post, some of the bikers can be agressive to cars, and I've heard stories of them doing things like what they did to the car driver (banging the bikes into cars that they're blocking, etc)....so I'm not surprised if that happened in this case.

Still doesn't make it right for him to plow the car through them all like that, but those actions may have prompted this guy to do something crazy where if they had just been polite...maybe nothing would have happened.

I absolutely hate this crap. The Critical Mass garbage I mean.

If you can not do the speed limit on the road, you should not be on it.... period.

there's a big push in our city that "Bikes have the same rights as vehicles" and that they can't ride on the sidewalks because they might collide with a pedestrian..... what's worse, biker vs. person walking or biker vs. 3000lb car. Car wins every time. I don't care if its "green" It's just not safe.

maybe we need to mow a couple down so they'll change the bi-laws......

Ok I watched the video... that guy took it a tad too far. I am against CM... and pretty much bikes in general blocking the roads or not obeying ALL laws (like don't pass me when I'm stopped at a red light) but this guy was insane.

Yeah, I'm all for a person's right to exercise, and I even agree that bicycles should be afforded the same rules of the road as a motor vehicle. However, if a bicyclist cannot achieve at least within 5mph of the posted speed limit, they should not be in a traffic lane. If a roadway is only wide enough for two vehicles to squeeze past each other (i.e. most rural residential roads), then a bicyclist should not be using that road in their route. I believe there should be more enforcement of bicyclists who ignore red lights or stop signs.

That being said, these Critical Mass yahoos are just asking for trouble. They purposefully ignore intelligent common sense and forego informing local LEO's where they will be staging and riding. I don't know why they do this, but without any kind of escort from the local LEO's they are inviting this kind of action. I'm in no way condoning what the driver of the VW Golf did, but the bikers did nothing to prevent something like that from happening. At most the driver should be fined and get a year probation.

I would even be supportive of the local government handing out tickets to every one of those bicyclists citing them for impeding the flow of traffic.
