GM version of Evo or Sti

I REALLY HOPE GM BRINGS THIS TO THE US!!!!!! I've been waiting for GM to make a car like this. An all wheel drive sports car. Maybe a twin turbo V6 with 320 Hp!!
Link
If you haven't seen the regular insignia, its a very good looking sedan that was European car of the year and it might replace the aura or lacrosse here in the US. The old insignia is our Saturn aura. Here it is.

Hmm, beating the Evo would be tough.

The Evo has always been a $10k car with a $30k drivetrain. If a company were to try to imitate the Evo and give it the sophisticated interior the Evo never had, well, then we'd have an M3.

The Evo holds the title as import budget sports car. It's fast, it can outhandle cars twice it's price. For GM to develop an Evo competitor, they would have alot on their plate.

Evo & STI killer

I would give that spot to the Cruze

Specs on said "Cruze"?

Remember that the Evo has heritage and culture just like the Camaro. So I don't imagine a ton of people flocking to a 1st Gen car and abandoning the Evo or STi just like that, just like most here wouldn't run to a supposed "Camaro killer".

This is coming to the US in 2011 as the Buick Regal. It's replacing the current LaCrosse. The 2010 LaCrosse basically replaces the current Lucerne.

Saturn is pretty much dead in the water as of this point...we just got reports today that the next-gen Opel Astra may go to Buick as well.

Well that won't be the Lacrosse but performance aside, that is a damn nice looking car and they should bring it here as something. GM needs to build more cars that can be sold anywhere.

Comes standard with 1.4L Turbocharged I-4. I'm sure they can fit the 2.0L Turbocharged ECOTEC I-4 in there as well.

By the way, the Insignia's a midsize sedan...wouldn't compete with the Lancer Evo.

"we're quietly hoping to see it Stateside as the successor to the V8-powered Buick LaCrosse Super (known as the Allure in Canada due to a certain unsavory Quebecois slang conflict)."

Is masterbating really unsavory?

If this Insignia twin turbo verison were to come to the US with Buick badge on it, as the new Regal is, then I say, I smell a Regal GNX comeback *daydreams*

Yea, I didn't mean to mislead people, but I dont think this could beat the evo or sti. All that I meant is that its a 4 door sedan with all wheel drive and over 300 hp. It will probably be a bit heavier because of its size and engine. I think the V6 could possibly be the 3.0 L going into the Lacrosse coming this summer and the new Equinox.

Cobalt SS is 8:22

The Cobalt and Lancer are the same class. It's pretty clear that GM has the know-how to compete with the EVO because a FWD can hold it's own on real tracks. The question is whether a car with such limited appeal would be worth the expense of engineering a robust enough 4wd system. Despite all the hype, EVO's don't sell that high of a volume of cars. Likely wouldn't work for Chevy because they already have chosen their halo car.

Now I could see them pulling a Heinreichy (sp?) treatment on a Solstice and coming up with something really special.

(Yes this is bench racing, and yes EVO's have more potential then Cobalts due to being AWD vs FWD-)
