Pedestrian Plowed Right in Front of Me

I was walking across the street in front of my apartment building today. It was snowing and slick. As I entered the crosswalk, there was a guy in front of me carrying a few small boxes. I took two steps and a car plowed into the guy without even hitting the brakes. He bounced off the car and boxes flew everywhere. So, the driver gets out and proceeds to scream at the guy for not getting out of his way when the guy could plainly see that the he was in a hurry. Then he looks for damage on the car and ignored the driver completely without even asking him if he was OK. The pedestrian was trying to find his boxes. He looked a little stunned. I didn't stick around. In Moscow, this is not the scene for a foreigner to be involved with. The last thing you want to do is talk to a Moscow cop at a time like that! What a jerk that driver was though! He deserved the old

You know, I hate when stupid pedestrians walk out in front of me.. i'm thinking of putting a plow in the front of the Camaro..

J/K!!! That sucks! I guess things are different there.. here, there would have been 6 lawyers there trying to give this guy a card before he even hit the ground..

You not wanting to get involved reminds me of a time when I lived in Turkey. My family and a lot of neighbors could see the dead body floating in the bay from our balconies. Not one person walked over to the water to get a better look. Once the body touched the shoreline, a cop car pulled up and the two cops put the body in the trunk and drove off. In the US there would have been a thousand people standing around trying to get a closer look!

I'd rather walk through America's worst ghettos with $100 bills sticking out of my pockets than to take my chances with half of those thieves. Half are cops and the other half are bandits. They love shaking down foreigners and would have no problems implicating you or me in something like this just to to make a few bucks. We see a victim of a traffic crime. They see an opportunity to make money!

I once watched a 50 year old man in Moscow with no legs pushing himself around on a makeshift homemade skateboard. He was drunk and disoriented. Some elderly woman was smacking him and robbing him in broad daylight. As he was screaming and crying, a cop stood 10 feet away laughing his *ss off. If I would have went over there to help that poor b*stard, I'd have been the one in trouble. It's just the way it is in this country.
