12 year old daughter

Anyone have trouble with their 12 yr old girl? Mine has a big attitude problem when she is with me and really don't quite no how to deal with it! She is a child of divorced parents of 6 years which I have split custody ( I get her 1 week her mother 1 week etc.)!

One of the main problems is her mother doesn't really have rules for her and I do. I limit her to time on computer, cell phone goes off at a certain time I limit her to going to friends house or having company over etc. Her mom basically let's her do as she pleases! Which in turn makes me look like a bad guy!

Anyways feel free to give opinions on how to cope with this matter! All opinions will not be judged, and would be helpful if anyone has went through sorta the same thing!!!!

It's kinda the opposite for me. I only get my boys on the weekends so I try and make sure they have fun when they are here. Sure I still make em go to bed at a decent time since they are still young, but thats no biggy. I figure the more fun they have here, the more likely they will want to come live with me when they get older and can make that decision on their own.

as to your situation, don't fret. You are teaching you child valuable life lessons....like you don't always get what you want

12 is around that time when they go from girls to insane hormone factories.
Which can be difficult to control, find an adult female role model over Mom who can talk with her and rule #1 is you don't ask what is said or talked about.
That rules shows more trust over then the typical she just says she don't tell you anything. If she thinks your asking and proding for info, she might not tell something important.

My daughter is 12 & she thinks she controls the house But she doesnt. I dont allow the tune around our place. I have more issues with my 16yr old son than my 12yr old daughter

My parents divorced when i was 12 and had joint custody. Going back and forth without a real home was a major cause of the acting out i did back then. Who cares if you piss mom off when you can go hide out at dad's? By the time you piss dad off, mom isn't angry anymore, so you can hide out there.

Just my $0.02, hope you work it out.

Mine are grown & gone and now have grand kids, but all I had were daughters. It is a fine balancing act and the best advice is have a hobby or passion you both can share...it will make all the differance in the world. Our took to drag racing, and instead of hanging at the mall w/friends and getting into trouble, it was planning the next big event to travel to.

I pray you find something to keep it together with her. My ex had her own solution - brainwash my 2 daughters so they never want to see me again. It worked perfectly...

I have a 12 yr old as well that I have been her stepfater for the past 10 years. There was time when we thought she was going to need to go to boarding school but it was really the fact that she was in this rut of wanting to be trusted more and do the things that her friends were doing but we didn't want her doing. She is an awesome student in school so we couldn't hammer her for that. I found out that when she acted out it was because she wanted something but was afraid to just ask. Sometimes its more about listening to her than it is talking...And I'm a firm believer in explaining the entire situaton about why I have the answers that I do. "Because I said so" isn't always the best route, especially when we know more about life and consequences than they do. Hope this helps...

Dude. It's tuff now. But just think back when you were a kid. Unless you are just abusing her, which you are obviously not, then she will realize later in life just who really cared for her.

BELIEVE me. You will get much more respect than her mother will.

You are in a damn tuff spot. Ours responded to a 2 month grounding. Obviously you can't do that.

Good luck. It's tuff I know. I can't imagine how tuff it'd be without Moms complete support.

My neice is 12 and she is a brat. She visits us and acts like she owns the place. She even sat in my Camaro without asking my permission! Anywho, it's the way kids can be sometimes. Little Devils!!
