Public Records Search

Hey!

Is there a way to access FREE Public Records Searches?
I wanna find out how someone could have got linked to me.

A person with the same last name has been associated with me and
my family at our current address.
I talked to www.peoplefinders.com about disassociating this person from my records, but they say it's a matter of 'public record' (nice dodge!) and want me to 'opt out' by sending a bunch of personal info.
Ya, I know they already have MY info, and I don't care - I just want to get this other person off my profile.

I keep getting collection calls and letters for this person and would like it stopped.

I've tried informing the 3 big Credit Reporting Companies by sending letters, but the irritation continues.

Really as far as public records go, nothing you can do. As far as you know that person may have just went though the phone book looking for people with the same last name to put down as family to reach if they can't get a hold of him.

I would do two things;

1) take the letters back to the post office and ask them to send them back. Inform the post office that while the address is correct, that specific person does not live there so the sender most of had the wrong address. After one or two letters come back, most collectors will stop sending letters or bills but as long as you keep accepting them they will keep sending them as they think they have the right address.

2) get an answer machine and record a "We're sorry the number you have dialed has been disconnected." message on your answer machine. You can find many recordings on this website http://www.payphone-directory.org/sounds.html Most people wont stay on the line long enough to hear the beep at the end of the recording to figure out what you did and after a couple calls the collectors will stop calling. Just inform the people who you want to call that if they get that to ignore it.
