The price of aging...

Saw this and it got me thinking:

1991 Corvette ZR1 Paid just over 98,000USD (inflation adjusted) in 1991 trying to sell for just under 20k was worlds fastest production car and GMs most expensive offering. 39,000 miles of use.

Question: who expects not to loose money on your camaro purchase? (just an expense for me I expect to have nothing of worth in 5 years)....

Anyone who expects to make money or break even on this car needs to put down the crack pipe, no matter how long you store it.

Yup, and even if the car beats inflation (which is extremely unlikely) there are still all the costs of owning it that would have to be made up for.

I think the biggest problem with the old ZR1's is that within a few years, new models were just as fast as it was but cost an awful lot less. A lot like the C5 Z06, now the base Corvette is essentially as good of a performer as it was. I wouldn't be surprised if the same thing happens to the C6 Z06 when the C7 comes out.

Off topic but: The 1991 ZR1 has a very special overhead cam engine and transmission. Neither exist on any Corvette today. A true enthusiast would consider this car's selling price a steal.

DANG IT!! I really really thought that my car would be worth $100,000 in a few years!!! Guess I better sell it now!!

Ok just kidding, I don't expect it to be worth anything much in a few years. The only reason I don't drive mine EVERYDAY is that I have 5 year loan on it and don't want it being wore out before it is paid for. Plus it is really nice to have a bad a$$ car to look forward to driving on the weekends....if that makes sense to anyone!

I don't care how much my 'HWAY STR' is worth in the future, because it is already worth much more to me than money could ever buy...

I wouldn't trade mine or sell it for anything...it is that special and priceless to me...

There are way too many cool dates and people connected to my car that can never ever be duplicated...

Call me crazy, but my Camaro is 'more than just another car' to me...

From my special pre-build print and R6P code, to my signed litho from Mike Judge, to the signatures of the Fbodfather and his team on my shock tower, to the build and ship dates connected to my late dad, and 'last, but not least', to re-connecting to my long lost best friend who manages a Chevy dealership in Virginia and 'built me' this car, and is now fighting for his life....none of that can ever be done again...

My Camaro means the world to me, as some of you might have noticed...lol...

I agree Donna -- it's much more then just a car.

I didn't buy this car b/c I thought "hey someday it'll be worth $$!!" - I got it because it is the first and only car that made me and think "I HAVE to have that" -- in all honesty, I had no idea what it even was when I saw it -- I just knew I wanted it....

Cherry is the first new car I have ever purchased for myself, she cost more then I make in a year and she is my saving grace from years of crap that I put up with.

She's the best thing in my life right now (even though she is far away and broken :() and nothing can top that - not even $! I wouldn't sell or trade her for anything in the world. EVER!

I my baby and all she means to me -- she is my 'Happy' place

They better have a grave site big enough b/c when I die this car's going with me -- and if I die IN this car (if people keep hitting me I might just) then screw the jaws of life, just roll me and my car into a hole and I'll have died happy.

I didn't buy it for an investment. I bought it for a toy, period. I usually don't buy things to sell or turn for profit. Most of my purchases are because I like them and have some connection to them.

If I had wanted an investment, I would have bought another musclecar.

BTW, musclecars are so far down now that buying one would be an investment now.

Well said Donna. No one on one's death bed will say "gee, I wish I hadn't driven my Camaro so much". Its meant to be used (not abused) and cared for in the same way we take pride in everything we do...

Winter's coming - soon time for her winter shoes so I can enjoy driving it over visiting it in the garage...

Just a side note. If I get a chance to buy a First Gen ZR1 I probably will. I went to school at OSU in Stillwater, OK. That is where the engines were cast, machined, and built. I remember seeing the test mule with the "Experimental Tag" drive around town. That car seemed like a rocketship back then.

Memories of the past is what makes cars collectors in the future. That's probably why I would buy a ZR1. I'm not really a Vette guy.

+1,000,000

100% correct, Tom...I could never, ever imagine not driving my 'baby' year round....:(

I would be seriously depressed if I had to wait until spring to get my 'permagrin' goin' on again...

There would be no more "prima"Donna smiley dances if I couldn't drive my 'HWAY STR' every single day...

Good thing that won't happen...

Tom, you know as well as I do, that life is way too short not to enjoy the people and things that make us happy evey single day...

What are we saving it for?....having just spent the better part of this year cleaning out my parents' house since they are both gone now, I came to the conclusion that we can't save everything for a special occasion or whatever...

We have to use the good china and wear the nice clothes, and drive the nice cars NOW, because 'tomorrow is promised to NO ONE'...today is all we have, so we might as well spend it as happily as possible...and for me, that means driving the car that has made me smile and laugh and be silly and young again, more than any car I have ever owned or driven IN MY LIFE!!!...

BTW, have I told you folks lately how much I love my Camaro?!...hmm??!!......
