Is the new GT better than the BMW M3?

Odd question to ask, right? But judging by the numbers, yes. Is that all there is to it?

In reality? Probably not, but then, "better" is relative. It's here that we'd caution you to remember the traditional line about apples, oranges, and comparisons. Both the 2011 Ford Mustang GT and the current BMW M3 offer staggering performance, V-8 power, and rear-wheel drive. One is a pedigreed European sport sedan, the other a charmingly raw piece of traditional American muscle. As to which one we like better, well, that depends on the day, our mood, the road, and how much diner food/schnitzel we had that morning. Different cars, different purposes, both awesome for entirely different reasons.

Still, aren't those numbers nuts? Progress rules.
The Mustang wins in the value category. However, I'd still rather have the M3 cause you could just sell it and use the money to buy a Z/28, GT500, Corvette, etc. lol.

I'd rather have the M3 also.

But the Mustang GT is definitely bang for the buck.

I never have and never will get the love affair people have for BMW's. Maybe it comes from living in Germany for so many years where they were a dime-a-dozen and used as taxi cabs, but they just don't "do it" for me.

Sorry for the off topic rant. Carry on.

Sorry for pointing out the obvious. Carry on.

It took longer than I thought for somebody to say that! Of course, that was my point; I don't consider there to be anything more special about a BMW than a Mustang or a Camaro. In fact, I would hazard to guess a lot of people who buy them do so because they want to impress other people, not because the cars offer better performance or comfort.

You can bet your ass the Mustang would be cheaper to track/maintain/live with.

Side note: You don't know how hard it was to say that after some douche bag in a Ford Taurus just gave me a thumbs down as I was driving around. I can only imagine where his allegiance is...

You could say the same thing about people buying modern muscle cars.

I mean they are all trying to impress somebody right? If it's not men attracting women, women attracting men, it's car enthusiasts attracting other car enthusiasts.

As for the performance and comfort of an M3 vs a Mustang. I agree performance is on par. But you are not seriously going to sit here and tell me that the Mustang is on par with the upper scale M3 on the comfort level.
Maybe it's subjective, but BMW has always been top notch in comfort.

BMW's luxury and reputation is usually what gives you that high price tag.

Exactly. My cousin owns a M5, and it is nothing like we see in the American made market.
High price tag? yes
Worth it? possibly, for those that have the money and prefer comfort and luxury over performance.

Well, some might buy their cars to impress others, but that has never been a reason for me. I buy the cars that I enjoy driving, and for me, that can be a 40-year old classic to a modern ponycar.

While I like some of the modern amenities, I could care less about half of the electronic crap that comes with the modern luxury cars. I mean, Lexus touts its self-parking/parking assist stuff as a reason to buy their car. To me, if you can't properly park a car, you don't need to be driving!

I'll concede the BMW uses nicer materials and has more bells and whistles than the average car (i.e. Mustang, Camaro, Malibu, Taurus, etc.), and if that floats your boat, I'm not going to suggest you shouldn't buy it. I'm not sure why you keep trying to suggest that I consider a Mustang, or a Camaro, on the same level as a BMW; I don't.

If the things the BMW offers appeals to someone, great, let them buy the car. That does not mean I will ever get why they feel that way about the car anymore than I will ever understand how one man can feel sexually attracted to another man.
