My wireless router stopped connecting.

OK I am sort of savy but I need some help. I cannot connect to the internet via my router. I plugged my cable modem directly back into the computer and I am connected now. I have checked and through ip config that I have an IP address. This all started when both my router and modem stopped working. I could not connect to the internet with the modem directly plugged in. I called the cable co and they walked me through some steps and voila I have internet but they cant/wont help me with the router. I called Linksys and they say since its out of warranty it will cost you x amount of dollars for us to help. I did some research and the problem sounds simple but I cant find a defintive way to fix it. So I am turning to you my Camaro 5 friends. The model number is wrt310n . Any hep would be appreciated.

Ok this might sound silly but.... It works when that happens to me. Unplug the wireless router for about a minute. Plug it back in and wait for the unit to generate it's IP address (about 30 sec) . Ta da I hope that helps.

My linksys took a crap and I had to buy a new router. Another problem I've seen
is the security settings on the router get wiped out. So when the wireless modem tries to connect to the router it won't.

Maybe the router is shot.

I would pretend you just bought the router, do a full install referencing a quick set up guide at Linksys.com.

Go to the modem's website and search router configs, or perhaps the cable co. site.

If you do a reinstall, consider using DDRT..... google that and Tomato much better fimware than cisco's.

Wireless routers do just die and need to be replaced, far more often than makes sense. I don't know why.

When you reset, did you do a complete hard reset that returns it to factory default settings?

I would just RIP IT OUT OF THE WALL AND THROW IT THROUGH MY WINDOW but I have a bit of a temper when electronics go nuts and I can't fix them. I don't let machines beat me. If I can't fix it, I smash it to pieces and go buy a new one (whatever it was).
