SUV recommendations for the Mrs
Until now, my wife has been completely uninterested in what she drives. She has valued practicality vs looks/performance etc.
She currently drives a banged up Honda Odyssey with dings on all four sides and has been happy. Until now. She works very hard and has done for many years (she is a Doctor). This year she made more money than she thought, and wants to spend upto $100k on an SUV and wants me to find one. She asked me to find something that makes peoples' heads turn...I have no idea where to start. It needs to have the following: 1) 3rd row 2) reliable 3) sporty 4) killer looks Is there anything out there that would work?

Commits weekly crime

I have the Audi Q5, and had looked at the Q7.
Based on my Q5, I would highly recommend the Q7. I've put over 50,000 miles on mine in almost 2 years, and it has had zero problems. The AWD is amazing in the snow and rain. It's also one of the most comfortable cars I've driven. Downside is price. They aren't a cheap car.

Range Rover Sport. may lack a little in the reliable side, wont leave you stranded but may cost you a bit after warranty is up. But looks awesome can get the supercharged in your price range which is a beast. Interior is perfection.

See if she can go through with it. My wife and I were in same boat we make enough and have no kids to get for the most part what we want. Wife looked at lexus GX, Range Rover Sport, Audi Q5, but in the end her practicality won out and ended up with Toyota Highlander good value very reliable she puts a lot mile on 20k a year. Plus if she gets nice fancy SUV she knows I will want to drive it some times and I will be a pain in the ass if its dirty.

I like the Range Rover sport.
Also looked at the new Discovery, both good looking SUVs.

Doctor? 100k to spend on an SUV?
New range rover sport... if she wants a bit smaller, evoque? Q7? http://usnews.rankingsandreviews.com...ry-Large-SUVs/ Those are luxury models though and wouldn't include Tahoe etc.. And these are "affordable" SUVs. Lol, 60k is affordable for a loaded Tahoe? http://usnews.rankingsandreviews.com...le-Large-SUVs/ And finally, I think this list is the one you should be looking at. 3 rows, luxury SUVS: http://usnews.rankingsandreviews.com...s-with-3-Rows/ I would get a brand new Escalade instead of a Range Rover. Domestic, hopefully less issues down the road, and king of the road of lux SUVS, imo. |

I think there are a lot choices could you put those 4 Priorities in order from most to least important. Every SUV I can think of only ticks 3-3/12 of those boxes.
Range rover and Audi fall a little short in the reliable department (after 4-5 years tend to have expensive repairs) Porsche looks are questionable some love some hate and has no third row. Tahoe, Escalade, Durango, and most SUV's miss the mark on sporty. How sporty do you want? Porsche is near track capable in some forms, Audi QS5 is a little rocket, AMG Merc's are muscle machines. Range Rover Sport Supercharged is very capable. Is third row a most? (with lots kids) or does she just like the room it affords. |
