200+ car pileup on A2 Autobahn

Orgrich used to have some unbelievable pics showing victims of autobahn accidents. They were as graphic as you can possibly imagine and seeing them has allowed me to always remember how vulnerable you are when travelling at high speeds. We get such a false sense of security when we are in a vehicle.

Well it's the excessive speed that kills more. The energy of the crash goes way up as you add speed.

Very true, When traveling at a high rate of speed you have four patches of rubber holding you on the road. Then factor in the rain and most don't slow down, BBOOM

Always try to get the best tire you can to help stay out of the crosshairs.

sadly there will never be a Autobahn in the USA with the type of drivers we have today. If somehow they made a Autobahn in the us where would you like it to start and end Illinois To Florida

After spending the last 4 years there when crap goes wrong on the autobahn...it goes really wrong!!

Seen more than my fair share of accidents over there...typically the debris pile is a 1/4 to 1/2 mile long when high speeds are involved!

Seen a bike loose it at more than 100mph (I was going about 90mph) there too...not much left of him!

The autobahn is cool but it's not for everyone and most if not all Americans would simply crash on one! Not to mention the idiots...they would be front page news daily!

...oh yeah...there are speed limits on it as well! Most of the autobahn is 130kmh (about 81mph) but there are areas where there is no limit...also, you wreck in these areas and your insurance won't pay a thing if speed is determined the reason!

Seeing how no one was killed instantly in that mess is a testament to the way cars are engineered today.

I once saw security camera footage from the Autobahn with a drunk guy in a mid-1990's Mercedes SL convertable. He had the top down, going about 120 mph, was swerving and vered off the road into a ditch. You can see in the footage the concealed roll bar flip up and the airbags deploy before he crashes.....

Then, you see the guy get out of the car and walk out of the dusty haze, brush himself off, and you could almost hear him say "what the f*^# just happend?"
