I remember a while back Jim Carrie tried to do that with him at an awards show a few years back and Carrie almost got him self chocked out by Smith.

I got no problem either with the way it was handled.

Will Smith was unknown at that time. When actors/actresses are unknown they will take almost any role for the exposure. The movie you're referring to is "Six Degrees of Separation" BTW. It was reported that this particular reporter has a knack for doing 2 kisses on both cheeks. And from the looks of it he was probably trying to establish himself. But if you're a man, you can't just walk up to another man and kiss him. Most (heterosexual) men will react just like Will did. He should be glad that Will didn't flat out punch him.
