Avalanche 2500

I was wondering if anyone here has an Avalanche with the 8.1L vortec. What are opinions on that truck and engine? I was thinking of buying a 4th gen F body, but now I'm considering replacing my ram 2500, which is what I was supposed to be looking for when I got my '11 SS, lol. Anyway, would have to be able to pull a 7000 lb, 32' trailer, so the 5.3L not really an option. It looks like they only made the 2500 avalanche until '06, is this correct?

I would imagine it could. However if you can get one, get a diesel.

Check out CAFCNA

I have an AVA, only a 1500 but my second one, they are so versitle, truck, suv, but ride so smooth. I would ask over at CAFCNA and I am sure they can help you out.

thanks. i actually googled looking for an avalanche or vortec forum but most what i found was pickup sites. I just found the CAFCNA and registered, waiting for approval. thanks again.

the avalanche I'm looking at is around $14k. Searching for deisels within 50 miles at under $20k and '02+ showed one result, and it had like 260000 miles on it.

The main complaint I'm seeing about the 8.1L is the fuel consumption. But it's actually rated slightly higher than what I have with the 5.2 dodge, and with over 100 more hp, about 3000lb higher towing capacity.

My dad has a 2500 gmc sierra with the 8.1 and loves it but the gas mileage sucks. It also feels quite quick cause of the tourque off the line.

260000 miles on it is a lot of miles.........:(

8.1L Oil consumption

Do you have any seat time in a 8 year old GMT800?

Is this going to be a DD or just a tow rig that you are only going to use for pulling this 32' trailer a few times a year.

You may be better off keeping your current tow rig and buying a nice economical DD.
