body pannel goop glue, stuff beween hood skin and skelton
body pannel goop glue, stuff beween hood skin and skelton
Im guessing that was done factory so not to need to have spot weld makrs all over the hood skin? Still made n sold or is there a knock off I can get local??? Seem to have come lose on my 80 Buick and the hood skin wants to flex / bend as the skelton isn't supporting it right as allot of them blobs of stuff are boke lose. And with it lose, neither hood skin or skelton are stiff anymore. Like takin the ends off a I beam just an i now and its flimsy. |

![]() With out the two bonding to each other well, I almost folded the hood in half on the one side but caught it before hand and all went back to shape with little effort. Though gonna remove the hood shock till fixed so I don't flex it more trying to shut it. [hood shocks are pretty new] |

I dont know now cause looking in the link upflying provided that would "seam" more correct.
I used seam sealer on my 68 GTO for the firewall and such but it was spot welded. In your case you dont have the rigidity of the a spot weld so seam sealer will be an issue. Sounds like you may have a repair on your hands. Cheers K |

The hook with them new 3M products is you need their special $5000 caulk gun to use it.

Two elements here. One is the hem adhesive. You likely can't see much of that except for just a littel squeeze out.
The other is hem sealer, which is basically a bead of sealer run along the edge of the hem to prevent corrosion. If it's sealer coming off, that has zero effect on your hood flexing more. But hoods, doors and decklids are all "glued" together with hem adhesive which is usually a pretty strong and durable bond. Not sure if that helps.

The gun is not that bad it have on cost me $45 (manual not pneumatic). The bigger thing is 3m just bought out one of the other Manufactures ( cannot remember off hand the name). So if you buy a gun but 3m.... Like #3 stated the new glues (just like welding) and sealer are money..I am restoring my wife's 68 and love the new sealer and will never go back. Plus there are tons of option just make sure you get the right one most 3m numbers are based on color and were bing used.
