I do this instinctively by default, never knew it had a name or a technique involved.

I know when I want to change lanes if I wait till I see the car in the rear view I know I can get over without any issues.

But I was taught this at driving school when I was 17.

I rarely find myself needing to drive like an ass to be able to change lanes. Doesn't mean it never happens, because I'm not the only ass on the road, but I don't have to do it often.
