Airflow was clearly a consideration in the stock design. The muffler bottom is mostly flat and directs the air just below the rear fascia. I doubt the GM engineers arrived at this design by chance. Without this design element the rear fascia is going to catch lots of air. There's simply no way it won't.
With that said, most people will never notice the difference. I track my car and regularly hit 140+. Any loss in stability would be a non-starter.
