You should not need a new windshield. It's really more the angle of the projector in relation to the angle of the windshield that allows you to see the reflection. Think of the glare you get off your dash if you use armorall on your dash (I remember many years ago washing my parents car and putting armorall everywhere... talk about a mess... ).

The easiest way to tell if GM really did create a special glass for this application is to ask your parts manager that gave you the GM parts diagrams if there is a different part number for the windshield for a 2011 vs a 2010.
