As to the clip/lanyard, do yourself a favor:
Get a length of wire, and attach it to the eye end of the lanyard when you disconnect it from the glovebox door. The lanyard is spring loaded to retract back toward the dash and the end will be a PIA to grab when you're ready to re-attach it to the door unless you have the wire attached to it. Simply pull it out and re-attach when you're ready.
