I have heard horror stories about the 8-speed in last generation. I wanted to buy the 2015 Denali my boss had but he would not let me with the problems he had. I also test drove a 2016 with only 20K miles and the tranny sounded clunky. The story was a new type of transmission fluid would help it but my boss said after 15-20k the problem returned. I also wanted the new tailgate so I got my SLT in 2020. My wife calls it my grandpa tailgate as a lot easier to get in. Got it with the 6.2 so over 400 horses so has some gittyup. Mine has the 10 speed and so far, so good, although only 19k miles on it. The SLT has more chrome which this old fart likes, at least on a truck. The Denali and AT4 have body colored bumpers. At least in 2020 the Denali had different suspension settings you could dial in for sport, offroad, whatever. The Denali also could have fold in running boards but sounds like those get iced up easy in Minnesota and stick. I think the other difference in the denali was a higher end interior and a LED gauge cluster. My SLT is the X31 package which is like the chevy z71, rancho shocks and skid plates. I believe the AT4 and elevation have a couple inch factory lift. Starting in 2020 I believe they came with the adaptive cruise. It slows down on its own when you get a certain distance from the car in front of you. Also will do some steering correction like if I go too far right onto the shoulder. I have tried it a couple times in stop and go and worked ok. If you come to a complete stop you have to press the cruise lever to start moving again but does follow traffic and stop when needed. I could live without it but use it since it came with it.
