most of the walls here at the cottage are 2x4 construction , our addition is 2x6 What we did was when we stripped walls to the studs was to reinsulate on the inside , then insulate on the outside of the plywood walls, before wood siding was put on . All new windows and doors were added with 18 inches of insulation in the attic ...

We use the wood stove for heat most of the time with a backup propane furnace. I am glad that at our other place we put a new high efficiency furnace in at the end of November , it replaced the mid efficiency one that was in for 26 yrs . I have noticed that it is much hotter and we can turn the thermostat down and feel comfortable ..

Today while using the tractor to clean up the snow I had both heaters on with one window cracked open , normally I only have one heater on with the window open ,,,,

this week is supposed to go back to more normal temperatures and more snow .

Have a good week folks and stay warm
