LAMJOH: I didn't get the insurance. There's really nothing to hit on the track (except another car I guess), so I don't see how you can really total the car. There was one guy who spun off track and blew his engine. I don't believe (but obviously am not sure) that they charged him anything. They're all new cars that are still under warranty and then after a few thousand miles they sell them used in California (so beware when you buy a used C7!)
LFish: I do DE all the time on my Z51, sometimes with the top down. It depends on the particular DE program, and what their rules are. It would be pretty hard to flip a Z51. If you're not racing and just doing DE, a roll cage/bar isn't necessary where I drive, it's up to the individual programs.
