Go with the V8 - no regrets.
I do mostly city/local driving, so that sometimes kills my mpg. Cruising, though, can yield 30+ mpg in V4 mode.
I got around 28 mpg this weekend on a trip from NJ to NH~ 250 miles, and used only 1/2 tank one-way. Same on the return trip. Lots of hills, though, so the V8 mode was kicking in A LOT (CT rt 15!).
It's a sports car, though...don't forget that.
