As a sign of the times, sanctioning bodies are placing fuel limits & flow rates on some of the major motor racing series, and of course, the engineers are finding ways to make the same amount of power with up to a third less fuel.
It's not a secret anymore that Mercedes & Ferrari (and possibly Renault) are using
TJI (Turbulent Jet Ignition) in their F1 engines, and apparently Ferrari are experimenting with what are being called '
Double Anchor Injectors'.
On the horizon could be:
HCCI (Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition).
This video has pretty interesting section on
'Ionization Sensing Ignition' (starting at 1:45).
Some pretty wild stuff going on these days, especially for those of use that used to have to set float levels & point gaps!!!
