In my experience, coilovers are good for lowering the stance or, for a higher price, improved performance on smooth roads or track use. The experience on rough roads is usually worse. I havent rode on any with a wide enough adjustment to provide a more comfortable ride than stock.
For rougher terrain you would want a change of springs/shocks and higher profile tires.
