People keep bringing up the weight, but it's 300 lbs more than a Camaro. I guess I just don't see how that matter all that much. 75 pounds of that can differentiate just with the driver alone. I drop my spare tire there's another 30 or 40.
Unless they make the car smaller, I'm not sure where weight could be saved. The hood is already aluminum. If it were smaller, it really wouldn't be the muscle car that is is today. Maybe if they shaved 6 inches off the front and back...but I'm not sure how much weight that would save.

I know it's Dodge's top of the line Challenger, and since it is... Isn't the GT500 Ford's top of the line Mustang? But historically I thought that R/T are supposed to compete with the SS and the Z/28 against the STR.
300 lbs is 3/10 of a second in the 1/4... I've seen a test put the SRT8 at 13.3 and the Camaro at 13.0, so of course that amount of weight is going to make a difference.
