An FFL may mail a handgun via Priority USPS mail. It is FAR cheaper than the overnight BS through Fed-Ex or especially UPS. And the risk of theft is also FAR less through USPS.

I have shipped dozens of handguns using my friends FFL at local PO's. You fill out a Postal Service form they retain, showing shipped From and To. The PO keeps a copy of your FFL on file and that's it. I have even simply showed a current FFL and have shipped from a PO.

Then again...this IS Free Montana not one of the many gun phobic States. I'd stop in the local PO and talk to them before bringing in a gun in a box.

Years back my old Agency shipped almost all of our 5903 Smiths back to Springfield to get new sights and have frames checked for cracks, etc. The cost difference had we shipped UPS or Postal Service...Was literally $10K. UPS can run $60 on up per gun. US Postal Service was $12 at that time. And they allowed us to do boxes of several...UPS would not at that time.

USPS is way cheaper and secure.
