+1 it's the ability to call yourself king of the street. Of course horsepower is a tough mountain to tackle because someone always has more. It is however what everyone will be compared to. The GT500 will surpass the ZL1 in hp, because GM's competition doesn't know how to approach the Camaro. They will just go mainstream and bump up power. Mainstream people will then consider them better cars, and it doesn't help that the Camaro has an okay rep in the car community. For whatever reasons, it gets the most hate in the muscle car category.
Ford is employing this strategy with the GT refresh, more HP and copying the design cues of the Camaro. The best all around car is still the Camaro SS. People don't want to admit, and will instead go on about how it's 'ugly'.
