not really that. it's more that oil markets realigned. most Mideast oil not goes to Asia, north American oil to the US. what's screwed up the region was Bush, and mostly Obama, removing leaders over there. Brutal dictator he was, but he kept those people in check. that was bad enough, but was confined to Iraq. but then Obama comes along and throws aside leaders in Syria, Egypt, etc.

the Middle east may well be a case where simply have to have some sort of strong man running things to keep order.
