GM calling back workers

Good to see some people getting their jobs back!

General Motors Calling Back 2,400 Workers, Adding a Third Shift at Three Plants
Date posted: 09-23-2009

DETROIT — Is it the light at the end of the tunnel? The lights will stay on at three General Motors plants as the automaker adds third shifts and puts 2,400 workers back on the job. GM says it's responding to greater demand for vehicles.

The Buick LaCrosse and Chevrolet Malibu will be built in larger numbers starting in January. They are assembled at the Fairfax, Kansas, plant. It will become the only Malibu assembly site once GM's Orion Township, Michigan, plant shuts down for retooling for a new small car to come out in 2011.

GM will also produce larger quantities of the Chevrolet Silverado/GMC Sierra pickups in Ford Wayne, Indiana, starting in April.

The third plant to see a production increase is the Delta Township, Michigan, plant that builds the Chevrolet Traverse. The Traverse has been built at Spring Hill, Tennessee, but production there will stop in November. The Delta Township plant will add its new shift next April.
