EDIT: the outcome of the game has no barring on them still trying to cheat. Again, if they didn't need to cheat, then why do it?

In a competive envirement, people will strive for any perceived advantage, even if that advantage is shown to be inconsicenquental. This my observation. You could kinda call it the rabbits foot syndrome.
