Since we are on the subject of 226's...Sorry Tenring.....here's an interesting variant, the X series guns.
This is a DA/SA gun, adjustable sights, tuned trigger, slightly better fitting, FAR heavier frame contour than a std 226 and some extended controls. Built for accuracy and weighted to soak up recoil. This is a .40 S&W gun too. They also do them in 9mm.
I wanted one of the SA only X-5's but was unable to find one. This "All Around" model in 5" became available so I jumped on it. I was very impressed right out of the box, it shot VERY well. But I REALLY wanted the SA only model.
My search continued and I finally did find an X-5 "Comp" model, the SA variant.
I liked the All Around but have never been a fan of forties, and seldom reload for forty. So I decided to have it fitted with a 9mm barrel so I could shoot up the tone of 9mm ammo in my basement, versus setting up for forty.
Found a SIG Smith in Texas who was getting rave reviews. "The SIG Armorer" . So sent it off along with a pair of Bar-Sto five inch barrels. One in 9mm the other in .357 SIG. He fitted both barrels, test fired, added a wider fiber optic front sight blade and gave it a DA/SA tune as well. The results were WELL WORTH the time and expense. SA was far crisper and the DA pull lighter and easier to shoot accurately.

I tend to keep the .357 barrel in as I like the power. I came across a mess of .40 ammo cheap, bought it, so use the forty barrel for steel challenge occasionally.
The X-5 series changed a few yrs back, they updated the exterior design quite a bit. I still like my old gen 1 guns though.
