No they did not turn it over on a running play. It was 3rd and 1 from their 30, and they called a pass. Ryan was blindsided and fumbled. Another horrific call by Shanahan. RUN THE BALL. Even if you don't get the yard, you get to burn the clock more, punt, and not give NE the ball on the ATL 25.
ATL averaged 5 yards per carry in this game.
If a run play is called, there isn't any hold. ATL didn't have a penalty on a running play the entire game.
As far as Matt Bryant, who is a 15 year veteran, he went 34 of 37 this season, with two of those misses being outside 50 yards. His long was 59.
The FG was a 38 yard one on 2nd down. Even if ATL doesn't gain a single yard on 2nd, and 3rd, the only thing that took him out of FG range was a sack, or a penalty.
If you run the ball, you remove 50% of this possibility.
YOU DONT THROW THE BALL
As I've already stated to you, ATL lost because of bad play calling and not managing the clock properly. This is FACT, not all the CONJECTURE you propose as if what if this and what if that.
The bottom line is they didn't need to do ANYTHING after going up 25 EXCEPT burn the clock. Run the ball, don't turn it over, burn as much clock as possible. NE would not have had the time to score the touchdown that tied the game had they just done this.
Shanahan is such a BONEHEAD, when his "Forward the live brigade" calling finally put the team in position to make it a 2 score game with less then 3 minutes left, what does he do? He proceeds to throw the ball.

If your in a boxing match that is a 12 rounder, and you win the first 9 rounds, you don't go for a knockout punch. You ride it out and win.
