They had the ball four more times, not counting the fifth after NE tied the game. 4 incompletions cost them 2:40 of clock run off. The 3rd and 1 pass that resulted in a fumble is another 40 seconds.
If they just run the ball the rest of the game, NE doesn't have the time to score the touchdown that tied the game.

Curious, would there have been any injury timeouts...and where would the clock have been at that point, also, when would the Pats have started using their's ?
Would the Pats have run more of a hurry up ? if so, how fast and how much time would they have saved ??
