Atlanta also had 4 possessions too. If they run the ball every time, even if they go 3 and out each four times, and manage the clock properly, they still take 10 minutes and 40 seconds off the clock.
Had they done this, NE gets 1 less possession in the fourth quarter. One less possession, they can't tie the game.
Even worse, with 4:40 to go, first and ten at the NE 22, they put themselves out of field goal range by Shanahan's ridiculous pass play call.
They would have been better off to kick the FG on 2nd down then call a passing play.
