For example, we had a '95 Civic that could be driven away with zero damage simply by unscrewing 2 Philips head screws holding the bottom of the steering column on, then the two holding the key insert to the ignition switch and then simply turning the switch.
I could do it in less than two minutes but I'm sure the 2x thieves did it they couldn't be bothered to use the screwdriver as anything but a pry bar. If they'd taken a moment to think it through they could have simply unscrewed the key insert, replaced it with a ~$45 replacement including keys from Honda and been all set.
When my stuff has gotten stolen or broken into all signs point to drug addicts looking for something to joy ride in and then contents to quickly pawn.
If they ever got their hands on a "mystery device" it, too, would end up sitting down at the pawn shop.
