Look...for college football to be meaningful, if you want to be accurate in who you rank #1, then let the NCAA handle scheduling for the last 5 games for ALL teams in ALL divisions.
10 game schedule. Bowl games at the end of the year, just like always, with one designated as the one between #1 & #2 based on the scheduled games for the last half of the year.
First 5 games are scheduled by the schools, against 4 conference teams. Strength of schedule matters. The last 5 games are generated by the NCAA, matching teams of similar rank to help weed out those that don't belong, with an 2 more conference game mixed in. Based on those games, a choice is made for two teams to play in the Ultimate Bowl, with all the other bowl games reverting to the traditional matchups.
Frankly, there is no way my idea is any worse than the BS that is currently college football.
