I liked it. I was actually surprised at how similar it is in format to the old Top Gear, despite them joking all summer long that they were going to great lengths to avoid lawsuits from the BBC unless they made major changes.
Spoilers below, but of the few changes they made, these were a very hilarious nod to their old show:
I loved how they gruesomely "killed" all the stars before their "Celebrity Brain Crash" segment, probably a reaction to the fact that many people admitted to skipping over the "Star in a Reasonably Priced Car" bit of their old show. I also loved the cheesy intro to the "Conversation Street" piece. It's like they went out of their way not to call it "The News" anymore, and did it in the most flamboyant way possible.
The "New New Top Gear" just doesn't capture this particular flavor of humor in the same way. I think I'm settled on the idea that I won't really bother to watch it anymore.
One minor complaint, but this was also an issue in their old show: Those laugh tracks are just way too loud and awkwardly timed. You can tell most of the audience is completely straight faced, and they attempt to pan the camera away during the punchline to cover the fact up. It doesn't detract that much either way, and I'm sure they will rely on this even more-so when they tour in foreign audiences where the jokes might not always connect.
