I agree with you, but remember that most buy off the lot, and Chevy dealers (to be fair, all dealers do this) have a habit of checking every box when they buy dealer stock.
The cheapest SS that the dealer nearest to me has is listed for $46,170, and the prices steadily go up to a couple 2SS convertibles listed for $56k.
That kind of sticker shock will make irrational impulse buyers a lot smarter all of a sudden.
It also doesn't take very much to get to an SS over $45k. Want leather or safety equipment? 2SS it is, which starts at $42,900 for 2017 model year. If you add an A8 and NPP, you are over $45k. Add MRC and you've just eclipsed $47k.
