A true "back fire" is when a intake valve is open at the time of ignition, either from improper cam timing, burnt or bent valve, etc. that would allow for incoming fuel to be ignited back through the intake manifold. What creative dawn posted does seem as close to what I am looking for if that can possibly work while downshifting to sound like that works perfect for me because I think you can make that kind of backfire louder itself depend on your downshifts
