Basically.
You see, if you cross something out on an essay on an AP exam, the graders aren't allowed to grade that part.
One of my essays dealt with the Vietnam War...and so I wrote...
"American troops were sent in to combat the Vietcong, running into the jungles of Vietnam screaming "THIS IS SPARTAAAAA!!!!"
Crossed out of course.
