It's not really being ashamed of your roots, it's essentially assimilating with the culture here and what you actually use. The fact of the matter is I have no reason to know Chinese or to speak Cebuano since the predominant language in the US is English, and that's what I studied in school. Plus I know enough Spanish to get by in most situations, especially here in Florida.
