Ford and Chevy both got out of hand naming cars with the same first letter as the brand. As a WWII tank fan, "Panther" wouldn't bother me, but I am happy with "Camaro".
Wasn't there a story about Ford originally naming the "Mustang" after the North American P-51 fighter plane, but then retracting that to the lone wild horse after anti-war sentiment gathered steam in the mid-1960's? I thought I had heard that before. The Ford "Thunderbolt" 427ci race motor was named after the Republic P-47 from a story in one of the car mags. Thanks for the link.
