I agree, if they would have showed the member of the group getting killed it would have set the tone for Negan a lot better. Fans would have been angry with this new character. The anticipation for the next season would have been high just to see how they retaliate to Negan's actions. The way things ended everyone is too hung up on who got the bat instead of thinking of Negan being this terrible new threat....
The worst thing is they will probably start season 7 at a later time back in Alexandria and not reveal who it was until midway into the first episode.
