We had a 2012 XB for awhile. I was looking for a cheap reliable car that got good gas mileage for my wife. Our Prius was starting to have battery issues (yeah I just admitted to having a prius), so I decided to trade it in rather than potentially have to pay big bucks for battery issues. We went up into the mountains one day and the batteries drained so low that the car would shut off. I put it into the mode for recharging while coasting when we started going back down hill and drove straight to a Toyota dealership. We were torn between a Rav4 and the XB and decided to go with the XB based on claimed gas mileage. I didn't do any prior research since I was basically trying to offload the prius. We were expecting 28 mpgs and ended up getting closer to 18 mpg due to the highway speed limit being 75mph and having a crappy transmission. It drove me nuts that our economy car got worse gas mileage than my corvette and now my cammed Camaro. The fuel tank was really small I cant remember its capacity but on long trips we were always stopping to get gas it was very annoying.
Other than the mpgs I never had any issues with the car in the 150,000 miles we put on it I never did anything other than tires, oil and brake pads. But it always had a super cheap feeling.
I wanted to trade it in for a long time but my wife was against it and wanting to pay it off in full before buying a new vehicle even though we owed less than the value of the car. I finally talked her into looking at an 07 Tahoe LTZ with 52,000 miles. She had the attitude of "well Ill look at it but theres no way you can convince me that we should buy it". As soon as she looked inside she changed her mind. Getting rid of the XB was one of the best things Ive done, I am so glad I don't have that car any more. Even better is that we have more room comfort and amenities in the Tahoe and get 17 mpg's. The insurance also dropped a significant amount.
