Well, that may very well be true, and in my opinion, the BASE 350 still has the advantage of better tires, and superior top end power.

But lots of people tend to forget that GT350 does NOT equal GT350R. Randy Probst really enjoyed driving the GT350TP in the recent MT video, but then went on to say "just don't drive the R first". Well...the base 350 isn't even as track capable as the TP (not to mention I'm fairly certain the SS comes equipped with more standard cooling than the base 350 does).

I say throw the brake package on a 1SS and that's it, and pit it against a base GT350 and lets see the outcomes. Lets do 0 - 60, 1/4 mile, and a track comparison.

Again, I think the base 350 may have the track advantage and should/could be quicker around a track...but by how much...if at all? Is a $40,000 SS (1SS with brakes) good competition with a $50,000 GT350? I'd love to see this.
This would be interesting and I bet these comparisons will happen shortly. The 6th gem benchmark was the 5th gen 1LE package and I think the 6th gen is quicker around a track, and obviously quicker in a straight line. If the base SS with the Brake Package can keep up with the GT350 then I will be surprised for sure. Do I think the SS will be able to keep up or beat the GT350? Honestly, no. But that's because of the power advantage and tire advantage of the GT350.
