I was born into a chevy family but I'm a true car enthusiast. Hopefully I don't get flamed but has anyone here owned or driven a gt500? They are pretty easy to get power out of. And from what I've read the engine and trans are all pretty stout. Of course I can upgrade to a SS for this price but there is something about the heritage of a gt500. My note on the gt500 would be small. And I actually have outstanding credit for a 24 year old, so the buying process shouldn't be difficult. Is there anything I need to look for when purchasing these cars(aside from portly done mods or heavily modified cars). I'm looking to get something with about 15-30k miles on it. How's the suspension? I know it's not as sophisticated as the camaro's. Welcoming any advice guys! Thanks!

I got my 2011 GT500 for 38k with 15k miles. Its an 11s capable car in the ¼ mile stock, low 11s with just drag radials, and 10s capable will pulley and tune with DRs. Very big difference in acceleration compared to the Camaro SS. Supposedly the block can handle 1200 hp but I don’t ever plan on going that high. It handles very well for being a solid rear axle car. With the SVT performance pack (on the 11-12 models) it beats the Boss 302 and hangs with the 1le on a track. On the VIR it beat the corvette grand sport, Audi r8 v10, and Fort GT.

With that being said it is a very difficult car to drive. The tires loose traction a lot. I have gone sideways in 4th gear doing 100mph. definitely upgrade the tires if you decide on getting one. I would skip on the 2007-2009 models. They look outdated, still cost a lot, 500hp vs 550 for the 11-12 models, and you can get better performance with a brand new Charger/challenger R/T 392 scat pack for around the same price.
