There's a lot to like about the E60 M5. Not quite as raw or driver-oriented as the E39 but that V10 is a top end screamer. It is certainly more appealing than the F10 which feels like a 7-series with power. As others have said, I personally wasn't a fan of the SMG but that's entirely personal preference (the manual was a joy to drive).
Sadly BMW no longer builds the ultimate driving machines that made them the popular choice for enthusiasts. Even the F80 M3/4 has been supplanted by the ATS-V in performance and the C63 in...well...every category.
