Because the Camaro exists & there would be far too much overlap between Camaro & Chevelle buyers. The sales gain from offering them both wouldn't be enough to justify the program. Thats why GM never had any intention of bringing back the Firebird even before they killed off Pontiac. And the Firebird had a much higher chance of doing well than the Chevelle does.
