Your best bet is to rent until you're sure you're going to stick with it. I picked up a cheap set from Target years ago (Top Flite) and I still have them.
I can't play for shit. Still have yet to legitimately break 100. The clubs however work great and they've paid for themselves. I played pretty steady for a year or so though before I bought them.
