Try some rentals, or Ebay. Start off at a driving range to see if you like it. Then learn proper mechanics and rules and etiquette of the game. I advocate for the game and help my non golfing buds when i can but nothing worse than to be out on a beautiful Saturday morning and have a 4 hour round turn into 6 because ur stuck behind someone that is a beginner and doesnt know the etiquette.
